By all evidence available there were only four doctors that served the Clermont people by making house calls to Clermont. They were Dr. Chadwick from Smethport , Dr. Howard Cleveland from Mt Jewett, Dr. Freeman from Hazelhurst, and Dr. Joseph Alfieri.

Dr. Chadwick would ride the train to Clermont when making house calls and of course after the trains ceased running many Clermont people drove to Smethport in their cars to see the doctor in his office.

Dr. Cleveland made his trips to Clermont by car and was known for his speedy driving. Any of his patients that needed hospital care were sent to his hospital in Kane known as the Summit Hospital . Dr. Cleveland delivered many babies at the homes in Clermont. In fact he delivered Mary Alfieri, my sister, at our home in Clermont in 1935 and my brother Joe in 1930.

Dr. Joseph Alfieri, my brother, was born in our home in Clermont. Dr. Cleveland was the doctor who performed the delivery. After graduating from medical School at the University of Pittsburgh Dr. Alfieri began practice in St Marys in 1961. Many Clermont residents became his patients and he made numerous house calls. Some of these calls were when he was visiting his parents.
